From the Educator - January 1999
Happy New Year greetings again and although it can't compare with more than fifty-seven hundred years of history, 1999 and the end of the century represents an auspicious time! We, at Congregation Albert, are beginning the new year with an activity that has grown in numbers and dimension during the past several years. I'm referring to our annual Family Camp Weekend. The dates this year are January 15-17th and the site is the Glorieta Conference Center just beyond Santa Fe.
Family Camp is for everyone! The program has elements that are appropriate for children of all ages, their parents and grandparents. Families of all shapes and sizes, with or without kids are welcome. Under the direction of Leah Schaer and with the participation of the professional staff, we will share a Shabbat experience, study Torah, sing, dance and simply have a great time. It is an opportunity to get closer to family members and to make new friends in a beautiful natural setting. There will be lots of time for leisure activities as well.
This program is supported by the Naomi and Arthur Rosenberg Fund. We are grateful to them for their assistance which helps to make this program available at a very reasonable cost. Please refer to the camp brochure for specific information and a registration form. There is still time to take advantage of this special opportunity.
Janet Barsky, our beloved librarian has recently retired. She will be honored for her many years of service on Friday evening, January 8th. Janet's efforts on behalf of the school have been outstanding. Her love for the children has been reflected in the wonderful programs she has provided for them. The Birthday Book Club and the Parent Connection are two important examples. Her warm and smiling presence on Sunday mornings has brightened our days. We, in the school, will honor Janet on Sunday morning January 10th. Please join us.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Hebrew classes and Machon (grades 7,8,9,10) resume on Wednesday, January 6th. Sunday classes resume on Sunday, January 10th. The temple security system will be in place on the 6th.
B'Shalom,
Glenda
