Strategic Visioning/Long Range Planning - January 1999

Congregation Albert has entered its second century by starting a strategic visioning process. This process of long range planning should help us decide what we as a congregation should undertake to do as well as look like over the next five to ten years. The first of three sessions was held on November 8. Over 120 members thought about and discussed the congregation's history, what we as a congregation are most proud of, and our basic values. A separate session for religious school teachers, the next Monday, allowed them to participate as well. Different ages, backgrounds, and interests were represented and the meetings proved to be wonderful forums for members to discuss their concerns and ideas. It was a great conversation and the committee thanks all of the volunteers and participants.

The committee along with several members who participated in the first meeting then met to review the written comments of the participants. The synthesis of the comments prepared by the committee showed that these four broad values are important to us: God and Torah; Jewish education and study; our congregational family; social action in our community and the world around us. Details about the values discussed will be available at the Temple at a later date and at our next meeting.

The second meeting on January 17, will continue the conversation, but concentrate on our preferred future. The final session on February 7 will concentrate on what it will take to reach them. From these sessions will come a written statement to be used by our leadership in guiding the future of the congregation. Please come to these meetings. Your voice is important, if you aren't there, it won't be heard.
