From TASTY - November 1998

The 1998-1999 year started off with a bang when Temple Albert Society of Temple Youth (TASTY) participated in the annual sub-regional overnight retreat at Elephant Butte with groups from El Paso and Las Cruces. The two hour trip was a great bonding experience and we had a blast sunning, swimming, praying, making lots of new friends, and sleeping on the beach under the stars. Everyone who went, came back happy and exhausted.

Our biggest event was our region's Social Action Weekend, hosted by Temple Kol Ami in Scottsdale, Arizona, where the theme was "Kids in Disappointing Situations." We all had an excellent time working on various social action projects, meeting new people, and learning about Judaism. The weekend also gave us a chance to renew and strengthen the friendships that we made on our Elephant Butte trip.

Next came a pizza party for the seventh through twelfth graders, where we mixed, ate, and talked about the upcoming year. TASTY gained a few new members (with hopefully lots more to come), and TAFFY, our junior youth group, gained the attention and enthusiasm of many seventh and eighth graders.

Our Second Annual High Holy Days food drive brought in an estimated 1400 pounds of food, which is equivalent to about 1400 meals for people who are homeless. TASTY would like to thank the Congregation for their outstanding support.

TASTY is anxiously looking forward to attending the Winter Conclave which will be hosted by Temple Mount Sinai in El Paso, Texas. We hope you will support out- upcoming efforts to raise money to help our TASTY-ites attend the biannual national NFTY Convention in Los Angeles in February.
