Sisterhood News - November 1998

Do you remember when we thought that anyone over sixty was really over the hill if not under the hill? How many of us have wondered how much life is left for us at that age? For a discussion of these compelling questions you won't want to miss our November 9 meeting were Elaine Greenspan will review "The Last Gift of Time: Life Beyond Sixty" by Carolyn Heilbrun. The book is available in our library if you would like to read it before the meeting.

In October we completed the Research Survey which should bring an additional $1,800 to Sisterhood. Special thanks to Joyce Friedman, Linda Jones, Lydia Horowitz and to all other Sisterhood members who helped with this very successful fund raiser. We were pleased to have the preschool teachers from our Religious School as our guests at the October meeting. We hope they will join us again.

One of our goals this year is to have some evening and/or Sunday meetings to accommodate Sisterhood members who work and cannot attend our afternoon meetings. Please call me if you are interested in working on this committee. We need your input so that these meetings can be geared to your interests.

Sisterhood will have a booth at the city-wide Chanuka Festival on Sunday, December 13. If you can volunteer for an hour or two that day, please contact Sue Black. We need your help at the booth and we think you will enjoy being part of the celebration.

Don't forget our Sisterhood Tributes! Just send your $4.00 donation to Ilsa Clausner with the name of the person you wish remembered for any occasion. She will immediately send out a card and the donor's name will be listed in the next bulletin.

In last month's bulletin, it was incorrectly stated that the profits from the gift shop go to Congregational programs and to Sisterhood. All profits from the gift shop go to Sisterhood and become part of our contribution to the Religious School and the Congregation.

Please mark your calendar for next month's meeting which will be held on Monday, December 14th. This will be a very special meeting at which we will host the Sisterhood of B'nai Israel. The program will feature David Lockington, conductor of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra.

B’Shalom
Henri Courtnage, President
