From the Educator - November 1998
The wonderful fall holidays culminated with the joyful celebration of Simchat Torah and the dedication of our new centennial Torah. What great memories for everyone!
Be sure to enter through the school wing and take a moment to admire the marvelous ceramic mural created by the children of the religious school under the direction of former teacher and nationally recognized artist, Diane Palley. This too will be a lasting tribute to the 100th anniversary of our congregation.
It's not too early to be planning for Chanukah. Our chanukiyah contest last year was a great success. Please bring that same creative spirit and imagination to this year's event -- a DREIDLE contest. There are no limitations to size and materials used. We would like to have them on display beginning Sunday, December 6th - so get started now and have fun! (The categories will be the same as in previous contests, i.e., grades K-3, 4-6, 7-high school and families with prizes for all participants.)
Although November is one of those rare months in which we have no Jewish holiday, it is the month in which we focus on Jewish books. Support the congregation's annual Book Fair on Sunday, November 22nd and build your Jewish home library. A 12th century scholar, Moses ibn Ezra, said, "A book is a most delightful companion. There is in the world no friend more faithful and attentive, no teacher more proficient."
B'Shalom,
