Sisterhood News - October 1998
It is great to know we have a clean slate before us for the coming year! Let us all hope we can remember our resolutions from Yom Kipper and be better people in the coming year.
We were thrilled to hear Roger Melone and Concertmaster Krzystof Zimowski at our September Sisterhood luncheon. Over seventy people attended, including many new faces. On Tuesday, October 13 we will hold the "Last Picnic of the Year" with the Sisterhood Board providing a delicious lunch. Larry Schwartz, Manager of Merrill Lynch & Co. will speak about "The Investment Environment." Lunch will be held Tuesday instead of Monday for this meeting only due to the holiday schedule. We regret that for the first time in many years increased food prices have forced us to raise our luncheon cost from $6.00 to $7.00. Lunch will be complimentary for all paid up Sisterhood members.
Save the dates of October 15th and 29th! Once again Sisterhood is hosting a research survey and we will need everyones help. This is a moneymaker for Sisterhood and this year we have been offered a $200 bonus. We need the participation of men and women for a few minutes on both these dates. Please call Lydia Horowitz at 892-8589 and sign up. You must be available for both dates. The survey will be conducted from 1:30 p.m. until 8:15 p.m. Bring your friends, you do not have to be Jewish to participate! Product samples will be given to all people that attend both sessions.
Please bring adult and childrens books you no longer need to the Temple library. They will be sold at the Book Fair to be held on November 22nd from 8:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. Janet Barsky would appreciate volunteers to help with this event.
Next months meeting will be held on Monday, November 9th. Elaine Greenspan will review the book "The Last Gift of Time: Life Beyond Sixty," by Carolyn Heilbrun.
The Forty-fourth Biennial Assembly of Women of Reform Judaism will be held in San Jose, CA on October 23-25. Delegates from Sisterhood will be myself and Fran Field. Marcia Rosenstein will also be there as the newly elected Treasurer of District #24. The theme for this year is "Make your Sisterhood all that youve always wanted it to be!" One of the highlights will be a Shabbat service at Camp Swig. We hope to be inspired, gain spirituality, and gather valuable information.
